Oh sweet Jesus! Say it ain’t so! Say it ain’t so! This peice of shit has actually hit the market! Why is it that the only Asian country that can build a car worth owning is Japan? I mean seriously, Tata Motors is selling a $2000 death trap. Not only does this thing beltch more smog than a moped*, it’s priced like one too. If there’s one thing crowded Indian streets don’t need it’s something like this.
Tata is also planning to take this POS to the European market as well, but in an upscale model. I guess by upscale they’ll actually put things like a transistor radio in it, and maybe use some baloon’s for airbags to help pass the Euro EndCap saftey tests. Let’s just hope this hunk of junk never makes it state side.
Rest assured the Nano will have it following of dedicated fan boys out there, and there will be a fair number of them equipped with Ricer wings, Alteza tails lights, underbody lights, and 10 hp worth of sticker. And ofcourse they’ll have to put some rims on it. I mean what fan boy would be caught dead rollin on 8′s, you got get with the times bro, you gotta atleast be pimpin’ 10′s or you might as well stay home.
/endrant If for some reason you want to see more about this thing thats masquarading as a car you can see more images and read all about it here.
* correction, it actually gets better emission that the larger mopeds as pointed out by beachjustice http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/01/the_tata_nano_u.php

Last i checked it fully passed crash testing and is far within emissions standards.
One of the main justifications for the domestic model being introduced in India as an alternative form of transport to those who can only afford mopeds is the engine was specially designed such that it has greater fuel efficiency than a large moped used in India. And considering it is a full car, that’s noteworthy, especially when you think about how our American vehicles tend to get such shitty gas mileage.
It’ll probably make for the cheapest fully electrical vehicle as well when they come out with that model.
Looks like you need to do some more research.
good call, the last i read it was supposed to be horrible on emissions. but you are correct, it is going to meet emissions standards for europe acorrding to http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/01/the_tata_nano_u.php .
As far as crash testing, it may pass but that doesn’t mean it’s safe, any time you cram 4 people into something that small and glue it all together with adhesive, instead of welding a full on roll cage like in the smart car you are asking for trouble.
thanks for stopping by our little corner of the interweb, hope to see you around here more often.
